Saturday March 26, 2011 (29 weeks)

Dear Joseph,Hello my darling Son! Tomorrow I’ll be 30 weeks pregnant with you. Daddy and I are starting to put your nursery together. Your crib and dresser will be here tomorrow and I cannot wait to help Daddy put it together! We’ll finally have a place to put some of the clothes we’ve been getting for you. Today, Daddy painted the letters for your name that we are going to hang on the wall. He is getting so excited to meet you!

It has been a busy few weeks for all of us. Wednesday is now Ultrasound Day; I’m going to the doctors for weekly ultrasounds. They are measuring you every other week and checking every time to see how well you’re doing. A week and a half ago, they measured you at 2lb 9oz and in the 46th percentile. Your measurements have gone down 10% and Mommy is starting to worry about you; I knew this would happen, it was just difficult to actually have them tell me. The 46th percentile is still very good for where you are now and they were happy with this ultrasound. I’m hoping you stay growing big and strong.

Mommy had to go to the Emergency Room last week. My heart rate got too high and I was very dizzy and seeing stars when I go to work. Luckily I work right at the hospital so all I had to do was go downstairs and I was at the ER. I was worried about you but they found your heartbeat and everything was ok. Once the nurse hooked me up to an IV and got fluids into me, my heart rate settled down and I felt a lot better. I had to go home and stay in bed for the rest of the day.

Three days ago at this week’s ultrasound, you weren’t doing as well as the week before. Your heart rate was very high and the technician was having a difficult time getting you to move around. After the ultrasound, the doctors hooked me up to a monitor for a non-stress test. I don’t think you liked the monitors because as soon as they hooked me up, you started kicking them! Your heart rate had settled down, so they watched it for about 10 minutes. Daddy thought that machine was very cool because it told us every time you kicked. I could see the monitors moving with your movements. The doctor came in to check the test and we came awfully close to having to go over to the hospital – your heart rate wasn’t changing as much as it should when you move and a couple times, it went down instead of up. The doctor told us that he thinks you’ll be OK for another week, so we’ll check on you again Wednesday. You weren’t as camera shy this week as you’ve been the last two – Daddy and I were able to get lots of pictures of you! You are still head down and I am still wondering how you know to go into that position.

Daddy and I are wearing awareness bracelets for you now – I bought them so we can show our support and raise awareness for your condition.

The road is starting to get rocky but I am here to carry you and keep you safe. We love you and thank God for the gift of your life every day!
Love, Mommy
